| Biography (Optional) | Hi! My name is Karen Keavy and my business name is Infinity Wellness, Education & Counselling. I am an educator with over 20 years experience working with children, their parents and caregivers. In my role as an educator I have helped countless children experiencing a range of challenges from sensory, social, emotional and learning. I have extensive experience working with children who have experienced various kinds of trauma including family and domestic violence, neglect and child sexual abuse. My counselling practice has been operating for eight years and I am skilled in a number of therapies including CBT, Narrative Therapy, Art Therapy, Positive Psychology and evidence based wellbeing strategies. I am holistic in my approach which means I look at the whole of the child in terms of treatment options. | General Vibe | My strength is working with children. This probably stems from the fact that I’ve been an educator for most of my life. I am a strength-based practitioner who likes to approach children from a positive perspective. This means talking with children about their strengths and what makes them light up! I definitely work collaboratively with children which means we work together to problem solve. I am an avid supporter of mindfulness and meditation practices for children and I have previously taught children yoga. This was a really positive experience for me and the children who attended! Some of the children who attended were diagnosed with Autism, others were there because they were experiencing anxiety and fear-based behaviours while others were there purely for the physical benefits. What was heartening to see was that all who attended were able to sit (or lay) and meditate for extended periods of time. That was a major win, especially when you consider that most children’s thinking today is so fast due to an over-reliance of various kinds of technology. |
| Particular Niches Catered for | I have worked extensively with children and adolescents who have experienced various kinds of abuse and neglect and also who are stuggling with issues around sexuality and gender. Central to working together with children is the ability to form a positive relationship built on mutual trust and respect. I pride myself on being able to do this quickly and work collaboratively with children in order to isolate challenges albeit social, emotional or learning. |
